Alisia Wan has the admirable propensity to put her full passion into whatever catches her interest, be it fashion, crystals, painting or tea (to name a few), and then to develop them into valuable art pieces and collector's items.
Perhaps most well-known for her bold and expressive depiction of lotuses, Alisia also pioneered the art of crystal painting, both in the literal and figurative sense. Inspired by Indian kolam's and based upon her interpretation of the vibrations or energy within crystals, Alisia arranges the assorted precious and semi-precious stones into lively and vibrant artworks. An example is Nature's Creation (4) which has the crystals in a spiral arrangement to symbolise the cycle of life.
Alisia also portrays the crystals in oil paints as a visual accompaniment to the actual stones. A comprehensive knowledge of crystal properties and representations make her crystal creations a real gem.
Minerals aside, Alisia also has a lifelong love for the lotus plant. In strong, distinctive Chinese brush strokes, her interpretation of the wide, undulating leaves and quaint buds border on the calligraphical and abstract. Alisia intends to bring a modern edge into Chinese painting and it is apparent in her interpretation of lotus seed heads as microphones seemingly conversing with each other. So enthusiastic is her portrayal of this natural dialogue that it is rare to see an actual lotus flower in her paintings.
Her inspiration comes from visiting the Taiping Lake and lakes in China. She does many quick thumbnail sketches which she then transfers unto canvas in her studio. She is currently experimenting with oil painting to continue her lotus series.
