Chai Chuan Jin

An artist who paints at his own leisure, Chai selects his medium by intuition and finds it difficult to produce good work when rushed for time.

A painter of the outdoors, landscapes and his personal favourite, flowers, Chai has recently started using acrylics. He was previously trained in watercolour. Chai enjoys painting the colours and forms of flowers and is still exploring different mediums and establishing his individual style.

Chai finds abstract difficult to interpret due to its intangibility and so he prefers to paint semi-abstract. Indeed, in his painting Flowers, it has the transparency of watercolour although painted with acrylics. The colours merge as if they were tinted glass, juxtaposed to form the scarcely perceptible shape of a cluster of blooms. A graceful blend of cool and warm shades, Flowers is a prime example of the progression of Chai's artistic skill.

At times, Chai paints from imagination and at others, from photo references that he gathers and then paints while indoors. Being an unhurried painter, Chai finds the pressure and demands of preparing for solo exhibitions exhausting. Truly, here is an artist who produces his best at rest and hopes most of all for genuine appreciation of his works from art lovers.
