Jake Goh

Jake's passion for all facets of music and the visualisation of his musically-inclined emotions when translated on canvas become semi-abstract, interpretative artworks incorporated with his trademark elements.

Using colours to bring out the illusion of depth, Jake paints seemingly protruding ridges in the plains of his background that give the impression that it is not a flat artwork. The focus of his paintings is a musical instrument constructed out of various components such as music notes and slates of what might be cloudy skies, cities or even landscapes. The sometimes brightly lit recurring dotted strips that stretch out from the instruments like an organic creature becomes his artistic identity.

The flow of music is shown by the way he drags and spreads out colours to bring vigour to an otherwise stagnant painting. The effect can come across as a portrayal of a lively, brightly lit city akin to an isle in the centre of a barren vista, which colour depends on the mood of the artist.

Jake is inspired by even the lyrics of a song and the flair and fluidity of a music piece, which he then visualises and paints. Music often accompanies him in his artistic process. He feels he can relate to sentimental ballads and jazz music, preferring pop when he is an upbeat mood.

Inspired by Van Gogh and impressed by the Picasso Sculpture Park Museum in Japan, Jake believes that passion surpasses talent and that emotion is stronger than thought. He aspires to maintain a charitable heart and to continuously contribute to society.
