Coming from the hectic world of advertising, when Kuen ventured into fine art she chose the calm settings of rural life as the subjects of her paintings.

Featureless faces populate Stephanie's vibrant canvases, their anonymity making them relatable and equal to the viewer's own memories of the lifestyle that her artworks call to mind. Portraying the everyday lives and cultures of common folk of all races using simple shapes and bright colours, her artworks seem to bear a childlike perception of colours and form, resulting in lively and amiable paintings.

Her depictions of leisurely pastimes and pastoral scenes usually contain a family unit playing or eating together, addressing the relationship and bond between parent and child or even between siblings that is so often strained in an urban setting. Stephanie's artworks bring the viewers to brighter and happier days of yore, captured in an innocence and simplicity even within the very actions of her painted subjects, reminding us of the joys of life are in the heart's home.

Stephanie hopes to capture the nostalgia of days when beauty was found within the simplicity of life, something that city-folk can surely appreciate. Through her paintings, she hopes to emphasise on the importance of the preservation of local traditions and culture even in the development of modern art.
